I get asked often: Why did you call your brand Shorebirds?

When I was founding Shorebirds and looking for a name, I was researching everything to do with the beach and being on holiday. I came across a definition that stopped me in my tracks: a shorebird isn’t necessarily a bird that lives on the shore, but one that visits the beach. These birds come in all shapes and sizes.

That struck a chord with me. The beach isn’t meant for just one body type or look. The shore belongs to everyone who steps onto the sand.

My ultimate vision for Shorebirds is to grow into a fully inclusive size range, creating elevated resortwear that celebrates and flatters women in all our beautiful shapes and sizes. Because every woman deserves to feel remarkable by the water.

The philosophy on our postcard

If you’ve ever unboxed a Shorebirds order, you might have found a handwritten note on a postcard inside with three short lines:

We all know that magnetic pull of the beach—the sound of the waves, the warmth of the sun, and the instant feeling of freedom when your feet touch the sand.

A shorebird is drawn to the water's edge. But visiting the beach shouldn't come with the pressure of feeling like you need to fit a certain mold. How you feel while you’re there is what truly matters.

Surebirds know their worth

That is where our play on words comes in: Surebirds.

Being a Surebird is about quiet certainty. It’s knowing who you are, honoring your body exactly as it is, and owning your space effortlessly.

When you know your worth, you don't settle for pieces that make you feel self-conscious or compromised. You look for designs that respect your natural shape, drape beautifully, and celebrate your body as it is today.
